The Red Lion and Sun was formally recognized by the Imperial Government of Iran as well as the League of Nations as a protection symbol in 1929, with equal status to the Red Cross and Red Crescent. Despite the shift by the Islamic Republic of Iran to the use of the Red Crescent in 1980, Iran explicitly maintains the right to use the Red Lion and Sun. And we shall do so again.
